The Cape Gliding Club (CGC) takes pleasure in inviting you to the second annual Western Cape Regionals, which will take place at the Worcester Airfield from 20 January 2013 to 26 January 2013.
The Western Cape is amongst one of the most beautiful regions in the world and gliding from the Cape Gliding Club offers an opportunity to experience the beauty of the world renowned Western Cape mountain ranges from the air. Flights of 300-500km are common from the club, even though several OLC and FAI 1000km distance flights have been achieved. Pilots flying from Worcester often report a combination of ridge lift, thermic lift, wave and convergence flying during their fun filled flights.
For a short introduction to mountain flying in the Western Cape please see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enuoFgaPDp8.
Two racing classes will be offered. A junior contest (class 2), for pilots that are new to Worcester and ridge flying, as well as a senior contest (class 1), for more experienced cross country and competition pilots.

Comments from participants of the inaugural Western Cape Regionals:
“I’ve found a new favourite place.” – Oscar Goudriaan
“Many thanks for a week of superb flying and Cape hospitality. In seven days I flew 2500km in ridge lift, wave, convergence, thermic and fire! I had one of the most memorable outlandings ever in the Tulbach Valley, where I ordered a superb Chicken & Bacon salad accompanied by a fine Chardonnay whilst waiting for my crew to arrive. What a feast of gliding! I will return.” – Mark Holliday
“Should this event become an annual one, you can register my perpetual entry. You have a wonderful site and it was an absolute privilege to once again fly in the mountains of the Western Cape. I now see why this area is called one of the most exciting areas in the country to fly.” – Gary Whitecross (winner of inaugural WC Regionals)
“To all of you out there that didn’t go, you certainly missed out on some very good ridge flying – a must for every glider pilot and a lot of experience was gained, even at my young age.” – Laurens Goudriaan
