The last day of the regionals.  The weather forecast was for westerly winds and thus the task set was as follows – start at Waaboomspruit with turn points at Ren (near Renosterhoek) Huguenot tunnel, Kleinfontein and home to Worcester.

Unfortunately major fires in the Baines Kloof area covered the start area of the task with a thick pall of smoke necessitating the cancellation of the task.  A short get together was held after de-rigging when the prizes were presented after a few closing comments – the prizes were awarded as follows –  first prize to Gary Whitecross  a case of six bottles of Merwida Sauvignon Blanc, 2 bottles of same to second  - Sven Olivier and a single bottle to Laurens Goudriaan.

The week ended with general agreement that this must be repeated next year at a similar time.

This competition has been a resounding success, and all the pilots that came from up country enjoyed the week immensely, so much so, all said they would be back next year.
